There’s something special about being invited into someone’s home during such a life-changing season. We had the chance to hang out with an awesome family in Overland Park and photograph their brand new baby girl, Birdy. It was one of those sessions where everything just felt easy and real—exactly the kind of shoot we love.

We’re not the stiff, high-pressure type of photographers. We believe in documenting life as it actually happens—spit-ups, giggles, outfit swaps, snack breaks, and all. And that’s exactly what this in-home newborn session turned into: a relaxed afternoon with a new family of four, lots of laughs, and a few quiet, beautiful moments we were lucky to catch on camera.

Real Life, Right Now

Birdy was just a few days old, still in that sleepy, snuggly stage. Like most newborns, she had her own ideas about when she wanted to be held, when she wanted to eat, and when she was totally done with us (we respect it, girl). We spent some time helping her get cozy, calming her between poses, and doing a few quick clean-ups after she let loose with a surprise spit-up or two. Totally normal. Totally perfect.

Her parents were so kind and easy to be around. We ended up chatting and laughing as much as we were shooting, and honestly, that’s how we know a session is going well. It didn’t feel rushed or overly posed—just a sweet family spending time together with a brand-new little human.

This engagement session was split between two classic Kansas City locations that couldn’t be more different—but worked together perfectly.

We started at the WWI Memorial, one of our go-to spots for elevated skyline engagement photos. The open space, timeless architecture, and views of downtown KC gave us plenty to work with. But honestly? These two didn’t need much. Their energy together was magnetic. There’s something about being with someone who knows how to make you laugh even when you're freezing or fixing a windblown strand of hair—and we caught a lot of those real, in-between moments.

After that, we moved into a more traditional, wooded area—all soft light, warm tones, and quiet space to just breathe. It's in those moments, when you're walking a path or leaning in for a hug, that you realize how powerful this season is. Engagement isn’t just a formality—it’s a chapter worth remembering.
